“I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.”

About
Jennifer A. White,LCSWR
I have over twenty years of experience working with children, families, and young adults. I began my career in community mental health, where I worked with children and families impacted by trauma and addictions. I gained expertise in working with addictions, trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, and emergent mental health issues.
For almost a decade, I worked with college students as both a therapist and assistant director of counseling services. There, I further expanded my interest and expertise in relational trauma, grief, loss, addictions, as well as gender identity issues. During my tenure in Higher Education, I developed a particular interest in the body’s response to stress and completed numerous mindfulness-based trainings and retreats, including MBSR. I designed and facilitated many groups for both students and staff, incorporating mindfulness-based strategies.
I have spent the past 6 years working in the field of Special Education, with Middle and High School students.
I believe that mental health is the ability to respond to setbacks, disappointments, and ambiguity - that is, life events - with flexibility and resilience. Often, childhood misattunements with caregivers, traumas, and neglect shape responses that become fixed patterns throughout life. With therapeutic intervention, positive attachment relationships can be forged, old memories can lead to new insights, which can inspire more adaptive responses. My practice combines a psychodynamic approach coupled with Somatic approaches to release and transform stuck emotions, body sensations, and negative cognitions, leading to increased energy and greater life satisfaction.
I have a certificate in Integrative Trauma Studies from the National Institute for the Psychotherapies.
I have intermediate Study in Somatic Experiencing.
